今天，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)陸明彥教授(Professor Chris Rudd) 和其他49名外國(guó)專家一起被浙江省政府授予“西湖友誼獎(jiǎng)”。

西湖友誼獎(jiǎng)是浙江省政府授予在浙外國(guó)專家的最高獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)，以表彰在浙江經(jīng)濟(jì)建設(shè)和社會(huì)發(fā)展中做出突出貢獻(xiàn)的外國(guó)專家。

陸校長(zhǎng)因其對(duì)中英高等教育發(fā)展和合作作出杰出貢獻(xiàn)獲得了今年的“西湖友誼獎(jiǎng)。”

陸校長(zhǎng)說(shuō)：“這份榮譽(yù)不僅屬于我個(gè)人，更屬于寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)的全體師生。

2004年，浙江省和寧波市大膽決定，引入世界百?gòu)?qiáng)大學(xué)英國(guó)諾丁漢大學(xué)的優(yōu)質(zhì)資源，建立中國(guó)第一所中外合作大學(xué)。十多年來(lái)，在省、市政府的支持下，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)已經(jīng)成為跨國(guó)教育合作的典范。我一直堅(jiān)信，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)不僅是中國(guó)第一所，而且是中國(guó)最好的中外合作大學(xué)！

從寧諾走出去的優(yōu)秀畢業(yè)生們受到全球名企和世界頂尖高校的認(rèn)可，出國(guó)深造的畢業(yè)生中有90%選擇學(xué)成歸國(guó)建設(shè)地方經(jīng)濟(jì)。寧諾鼓勵(lì)學(xué)校的專家學(xué)者們探索應(yīng)用型知識(shí)和開(kāi)展實(shí)用性科研項(xiàng)目，寧諾實(shí)驗(yàn)室產(chǎn)出的許多研究成果已經(jīng)成功轉(zhuǎn)化為現(xiàn)實(shí)問(wèn)題的解決方案，這是學(xué)校對(duì)地方支持和信任的回報(bào)，也是學(xué)校助力城市、地域經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展作出的應(yīng)有貢獻(xiàn)。

這次頒發(fā)的西湖友誼獎(jiǎng)不僅是我個(gè)人的榮譽(yù)，也是對(duì)當(dāng)年那個(gè)大膽決定的認(rèn)可，我希望中英雙方能對(duì)寧諾的發(fā)展及因此帶來(lái)的巨大效益感到滿意。寧諾15歲生日即將來(lái)臨，我們也將繼續(xù)致力于教學(xué)質(zhì)量、科研能力的提升，肩負(fù)社會(huì)責(zé)任，為地方發(fā)展貢獻(xiàn)自己的力量。”

陸校長(zhǎng)在中國(guó)以及與中國(guó)相關(guān)的事業(yè)方面十分活躍，在推動(dòng)中英合作與友誼領(lǐng)域做出了令人矚目的貢獻(xiàn)。他是諾丁漢大學(xué)孔子學(xué)院的理事長(zhǎng)、吉林大學(xué)客座教授。陸校長(zhǎng)還是英中貿(mào)易理事會(huì)董事、是中英商業(yè)活動(dòng)的常客，在各大活動(dòng)場(chǎng)合發(fā)言倡導(dǎo)國(guó)際合作、跨國(guó)教育。他一直致力于與中國(guó)企業(yè)建立有利于兩國(guó)的長(zhǎng)期伙伴關(guān)系，開(kāi)展廣泛合作，以滿足中國(guó)對(duì)技術(shù)和人才的要求，以及西方國(guó)家對(duì)市場(chǎng)的需求。

以學(xué)校為紐帶，搭建中英科技、經(jīng)貿(mào)合作和文化交流的橋梁，陸校長(zhǎng)對(duì)高等教育和中英合作所作出的貢獻(xiàn)被中英雙方肯定。今年元旦節(jié)，他獲得了英國(guó)女王頒發(fā)的大英帝國(guó)官佐勛章(Officer of the Order of the British Empire, OBE)。去年9月，他獲得了寧波授予外國(guó)專家的最高榮譽(yù)——茶花獎(jiǎng)。

2015年，由于在促進(jìn)中英兩國(guó)友好關(guān)系、經(jīng)貿(mào)合作方面作出的杰出貢獻(xiàn)，陸校長(zhǎng)獲得了英國(guó)48家集團(tuán)俱樂(lè)部和中國(guó)駐英國(guó)大使館聯(lián)合頒發(fā)的“破冰者”獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)。2013年，他還榮獲長(zhǎng)白山友誼獎(jiǎng)。

The Provost of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has been recognised for his contribution to the development of Zhejiang province.

Professor Chris Rudd OBE, who is also a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham UK, was awarded the West Lake Friendship award by Zhejiang Provincial Government.

Established in 1997, the award is the highest honour the Zhejiang province can bestow upon a foreign national, recognising their contribution to the social and economic development of the province, whether in business and technology or culture and education.

Professor Rudd received the award in Hangzhou, along with 49 other awardees from different countries, who represented a range of fields.

He said: “I am delighted to accept this honour not for myself but the community of students and staff at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). In 2004, Zhejiang provincial government and the city of Ningbo made a bold decision to invite the University of Nottingham to establish the first Sino-foreign University in China. Since then, with continuous support from the provincial and municipal government, UNNC has become the international yardstick by which transnational education projects are measured. We were the first, but I continue to believe that we are the best!

“Our talented graduates are prized by renowned employers and Global top 10 universities. Many of them benefit from UNNC as a springboard to overseas study, but 90% return to China to contribute to the compelling local economic opportunities.

“UNNC welcomes exceptional researchers and to create knowledge with a practical purpose and to repay the trust of our host city. Many discoveries from UNNC laboratories have already been transferred to real-world solutions, supporting economic growth in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province and beyond.

“Leaving aside personal pride, I hope that our UK partners, WanLi education group and local government can take satisfaction in this spectacular return on their bold investment in UNNC and the public acknowledgement via our West Lake Award.

“As UNNC celebrates its 15 year anniversary, we will continue to drive our quality standards, delivering for our stakeholders and creating research capacity and social outreach that supports local economic ambitions.”

Alongside his international reputation as a material scientist, Professor Rudd has broad experience of the transfer and commercialisation of research. Since becoming Provost at UNNC in 2015, he has led on enhancing the quality of both research performance and student outcomes.

Professor Rudd has played an integral role in furthering both Nottingham and the UK’s relationship with China. His leadership of UNNC has been recognised through numerous British and international awards and he is a board member of the China-Britain Business Council.

He was awarded an OBE in the United Kingdom in 2018, and a Camellia Award in Ningbo in 2017, in recognition of his work to further UK/China educational interests.
